Music connects us. Music inspires us. Music restores us. Music is an integral component of ministry at First Congregational Church of Natick. Worship services always involve music of some sort–piano, drums, trumpet, guitar, vocals, and, of course, our beautiful Hook and Hastings pipe organ.
Our organ dates to the late 19th Century and was installed when the church was built in 1874. Shared singing comes from the Hymns of Truth and Light, a hymnal adopted by the Congregation in 1998, which incorporates a special selection of songs chosen by us.
Adult Choir
Music Director Tom Foster leads the choir in presenting a variety of music styles–from traditional classics to spirituals, jazz arrangements, and modern, popular pieces. The adult choir is open (no audition) to singers from high school to senior citizen. Weekly rehearsals Thursday evening and before Sunday worship. If interested, contact the church office or talk to Tom on a Sunday morning.
“FCC has a knack for finding what you’re good at—even if you’ve forgotten it. When the Music Director found out I’d been a drummer and asked me to sit in on a few rhythmic choir anthems, I had no idea what was in store for me. I reconnected with my drums and made new connections with musical artists in and around Natick. Now, playing with other musicians and vocalists in the community is one of the greatest joys of my adult life.” —Mark Dixon
Children’s Music
Children also enjoy special activities which introduce them to music as a worship tradition and extend to performance opportunities.
All children have an opportunity to sing during Community Time at Sunday School (preschool to grade 6). Additionally, there are also opportunities for featured performances during worship—from a solo with the Senior Choir to participation in the Children’s Choir, which performs several times a year. The annual Christmas Pageant provides kids of all ages yet another chance to share their gifts as music makers and actors!
Contact Sarallyn Keller for more information about these opportunities.
