with opportunities beginning Sept. 23
FCC Natick is joining our Episcopalian siblings in marking the 350th anniversary of the beginning of Metacomet’s Resistance (also known as King Philip’s War), culminating with a journey by bus from Natick to Deer Island – the internment site where hundreds of Native people from the “praying towns” died from exposure and starvation in the winter of 1675 – 1676.
Mon., Oct. 13, Bus journey from Natick to Deer Island. Begins with breakfast at St. Paul’s between 9:00 and 9:45, return to Natick by 5pm. Preparatory materials created by Episcopal Diocese here, and signup required for the bus.
We are grateful to the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts and the Diocese of Western Massachusetts for organizing these offerings, and allowing us to join them. There is no charge for these events, but donations are welcome.
Any questions, or if you’d like to help, please see Rev. Cindy or Sarallyn.
There are several ways to participate:
Tues., Sept. 23, 7pm, via Zoom. An introductory seminar on the history of Metacomet’s Rebellion / King Philip’s War by Don Strong Turtle Brown, Jr., Pokanoket Tribal Historian.
Sun., Oct. 12, 10:30am, Worship at FCC Natick in person and online, reflecting on this sacred journey.
Sun., Oct. 12, 4pm, online. A Service of Holy Listening. Our Episcopalian siblings gather us into an online circle to receive the gift of story from several Native voices, each bringing a unique perspective of Deer Island, Metacomet’s Rebellion / King Philip’s War and its meaning and relevance today.
