Guest pastor Rev. Dr. Ed Bernald. Communion Sunday.

As is our tradition, worship is now at 9:30 am for the summer months (June 30 – Sept. 1).  It has also moved from the Sanctuary to the (newly air conditioned) Vestry. Sunday School shifts to Summer Godly Play (one joint classroom) for the month.

Guest Pastor Bio: Ed describes himself with two words:  Lucky Man!  He and his wonderful wife, Jean Cummiskey who is a mosaicist, are blessed with two Spinone Italiano, Bravo and Diva, and a cute cat, Quincy. They all spend time together at their home in Hopkinton, MA and at their other home in God’s country, the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York. Ed enjoyed a  diverse career. As a young pastor, he tripled Sunday attendance over a three-year period. He morphed into a free-lance writer, specializing in writing for nonprofits throughout the United States, Canada, and even Israel. More recently, Ed served as a chaplain at an acute-care hospice facility, where he provided care and caring for people from all walks of life (and their families) on the path to the final breaths of life. While there, he witnessed up to six people die a day. It led him to become a board-certified chaplain, while deepening, expanding and furthering his sense of spirituality. An avid outdoorsman and conservationist, Ed loves hiking, backpacking, camping, canoeing, fishing, snowshoeing – as well as gardening (a joy he learned from his Mom while growing up). From the diversity of these experiences, his sermons address critical issues from a wide-ranging perspective, including:

  1. how our spirituality embraces, empowers, energizes, and equips us to face anything and everything as we journey through life;
  2. why local congregations can continue to be revitalized to address the needs and provide the firmest grounding for individuals of all ages, families, and our community; and
  3. broadening perspectives on social justice issues that brings together people from diverging viewpoints and backgrounds to act together in harmony.
